New faint icon on desktop

I use W7. A faint new icon has appeared on my desktop. It is titled "desktop" & is not a shortcut. When opened it displays: [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21799

If I try to delete it I get a warning that Windows may not operate correctly if I do so.

Anyone got any idea where this icon has come from & what to do about getting rid of it?

Try a normal re-start, it may then disappear.

Thanks but I've tried that & it's still there. Now another, similar one has appeared after I reinstalled X-Mouse, wonder if that's the cause. I might try just deleting them after setting a restore point.
