New DVD writer not working

  User-BDCEDE6F-B9BE-4B7A-91A901FEC5710802 22:42 12 May 2004

Plucked up the courage to install a new drive myself and added new DVD writer to go with existing CDRW drive.

My problem is that neither the original drive or the new one is being detected by the PC - both are powered OK (can eject etc) but that's it.

Think I followed the instructions correctly and set the original drive to Master and the new drive to Cable Select...

I'm sure it's something simple but any advice would be appreciated!

Try setting the DVD writer to MASTER and the CD writer to SLAVE, that should do the trick.

Do not use cable select use as above

Do as redshift300 suggests.

DVD writers like to have priority. If this does not work, then just take the ide cable out of the cdrw, so you just have the dvd writer on the IDE cable. This usually works.

It means you have one of the dvd writers that does not like to share with an optical drive.

Thanks all, did as redshift300 suggested and all now working OK.

I knew it was a simple thing!
