new dvd drive help

My friend bought a new dvd drive and i thought i could fit it for him,until i saw inside his case,his existing drive does not have a ide ribbon connection,the new one does,also there is no spare ribbon comming from the mother board,can someone explain this and how i may get round it.

Sounds like existing drive is a SATA and new drive is IDE which also means power connections will be different.

Easiest solution is to take new drive back and swap for a SATA drive.


Check if there is an IDE socket on the motherboard and a spare Molex plug from the Power Supply Unit before attempting to procedure further with this drive.
