New Drive Installed Can I copy over old one

I have a 40gb IDE internal drive that's getting pretty full. What I want to do is get say a 250gb IDE drive and install it as the slave drive. Then use a drive copying (disc image) program to copy over everything on my original drive. Once done, change the slave to the master and use the old 40gb (re-formatted) as a slave.

However, PCWorld told me that this cannot be done because XP operating system won't transfer over.

Is this correct?

Why not install the new one with the old one disconnected - install the operating system - then connect up the old HDD as slave! Job done ;-)
To answer your question, PCWorld is right. The useres of Norton Ghost or Acronis Drive Image may come up with another suggestion.

Acronis copies everthing including the OS. for disc swapping you should use the disc clone facility in Acronis.
