I'm trying to set up a connection using an ADSL modem.
Welcome to New Connection Wixard - "next"

Connect to the internet - "next"

Set up my connection manually - "next"

I want to connect using a dial up modem but the only option it gives me here is to 'Connect using a broadband connection that is always on'.

The other 2 options are greyed out.

Any Ideas.

"I'm trying to set up a connection using an ADSL modem."

"I want to connect using a dial up modem"

So which modem do you want to use??

You've confused me. As far as I know you can't use an ADSL modem as a dialup.

Do you have an ordinary analogue modem fitted to your PC?

what I have typed above is the step by step installation window. I've clicked 'next' after each step but am halted at the stage where I want to click on 'Connect using a dial up modem' as it is not highlighted.

Modem I'm using is a speedtouch 330.

The spedtouch 330 is an ADSL modem NOT dial up. The wizard also offer you:

'Connect using a broad band connection that requires a user name and password'

and

'connect using a broadband connection that is always on'

Use one of them.

If you read my original post it will tell you that only one is highlighted.
I can't click on any other option.

I think it's the 'connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password' I need, but again its not highlighted for me to click it.

"If you read my original post it will tell you that only one is highlighted"

Facetiousness will not help you in this Forum.

I did read your original (confusing) post.

You are only being offered one option presumably because the wizard has recognised the speedtouch modem for what is it(a broadbanf modem).

Use that option.

  Scorpion2112 16:22 31 Mar 2007

not trying to be facetious at all.

(having used a speedtouch on another pc, the internet connection to the pc drops when the pc is switched off.
When I want to use the internet again it goes through a dial up process asking for username and password.)

I'm asking for help as I don't have the knowledge of pc's that most of the helpers on here have. If all you want to do is have a go then please leave it for someone else to help.

'Connect using a broad band connection that requires a user name and password'is not being offered as an option. I think that this is the selection I need but can't use as it is greyed out.

I'll continue to offer help in spite of your continuing attitude problem.

'Connect using a broad band connection that requires a user name and password' usually applies when you have an installation CD from your ISP.

Have you got one of those? If so, use it.

If not, the wizard is offering you the only available option.

OK Sorry if I sound off-handed.Didn't mean to.
Accept my apology and we'll start again.

istalled modem with cd from ISP. that's OK.
(both lights lit)
connection test to network failed.

ISP say that there is no problem with the line.

don't know where to go next.

  Jackcoms 17:13 31 Mar 2007

I don't use the Speedtouch, but I assume "both lights lit" means you have a good (USB) power connection and a good ADSL connection?

I assume also that, as part of the installation process, you have set up the user name/password details for your ISP?
