Is this with an ethernet modem or a USB one ? Either way , try looking first in the " tools " section of IE7 or Firefox ( whichever he is using ) and select " Internet Options ( Options in Firefox )Connections ( Advanced in Firefox ) . In IE7 tick the box for " Never dial a connection " Firefox , select Network/Settings and tick the box " No Proxy " . If using an ethernet modem or router they usually come preconfigured and connect to the internet independently from the PC , make sure the ethernet port is working correctly and that the cable is actually plugged in to the right port ( seen them crammed in to a modem port before ) . If using a USB modem you must load the drivers first , then connect the USB modem , from there you can enter your connection details .
