Networking Printer

My friend has a Desktop PC,running Windows XP, with a Canon printer wired to it. He also hasa Laptop running Vista Ultimate, and connected to his Desktop wirelessly. He has the setup all networked, so he can share files between th pc's. However the problem is setting up the printer, so he can print directly from the laptop. When he tries to share the printer, a dialogue box comes up saying he will have to download the printer drivers onto his laptop. He agrees to this, clicking OK, but then it says that it can't find them. He has connected the printer by wire to the laptop, and it works ok. BUT it won't work wirelessly. What are we doing wrong?

Thanx

If your friend has the disk that came with the Printer then get the drivers off that.

It is also possible that there are no drivers under Vista for this printer, have a look at the manufacturers site(Canon that is to see if they have Vista drivers for the printer in question).

Have tried the disc, but still not working

Have checked the canon website, and it says that the drivers requires are already installed in Vista

Has he turned on printer sharing on the printer host PC ...start/settings/printers , right click on printer , select properties , second tab along says " sharing " tick the boxes . There will also be the option to load other drivers for different operating systems , if need be do this for Vista then Ok your way back to the desktop . Add a printer in Vista , let it search for the attached on the host PC ( which must be running ) if it cant find it there is the option to manually search for it , when that is doen , Vista will load the drivers and let you print a test page , that should do it !!.
