NETWORKING

I have connected two PC's using a loopback ethernet cable.
I can get the local coputer each time but cannot get the other to get networking.
I notice that I have not got 32 BIT ETHERNET PCI CARD in the PROTOCOL PROPERTIES on the main PC.
Which is running XP Pro.
My other PC runs on Win 98.
I have tried to load this driver for the BELKIN PCI CARD but cannot find the file.
I have run the WIZARD and all seems to set up OK but still no networking.
HELP ANYONE PLEASE

My understanding is that it is a cross over cable. We have just networked two pcs and used a cross over cable (bought from e-bay for 99p!) Only problems we had was due to Zone Alarm not letting us see one of the pc's on the network but thats all sorted now and the network works great.

nogmog, make sure the XP firewall is turned off and any that are on the 98 machine.

Can you ping both ways on the network?

Have you created any shares on either machine?

Do a check for the state of the NIC. Run a command prompt and type in the following noting the space after ipconfig: ipconfig /all
This should then tell you the IP address of the nic and it's Mac address.
