I am from Nigeria, a student at the college of medicine. recently a group of us (me and 3 other colleagues)came together to network our Hostels there are presently four building and we have an Edvo card. we are thinking of doing it like and HOtspot. can anyone put us through how to do so with people using wifi on laptop to surf the net. pls we are medical student who only understand the basic of networking. its very costly to get equipment in nigeria so we appreaciate the fewer equipment and we cant afford a professional network engineer.

Using an EDVO card you would need a special router for 802.11b/g networks wireless devices to access the Internet and very expensively

Base on the distance between the buildings; you would need to install outdoors hi-gain

Directional antennas for each building

Plus you might need to install Wireless-G Range Extenders in each building to cover
areas that require access

High Gain Wireless Antenna

High gain wireless antenna often needs proper site surveying before a decision can be made upon which antenna to select.

High gain wireless antennas come in various guises.

The directional, omni-directional, corner, as well as antenna suitable for outdoor use as well as the standard indoor variety.

Each classification of high gain wireless antenna has a different specification when it comes to the wireless beam, the vertical and horizontal measurements can vary quite considerably.

This statistic makes it incredibly important to research you requirements thoroughly before purchasing an antenna.

It would be a lot simply and costly just to install a phone line in each building with a normal wireless modem router
