networked but with no protcetion

ive just managed to network my desktop and laptop via a cable connection,the thing is i have to disable virus protection and the firewall.does anyone know why and is there a workaround to putting these back on as im on a broadband connection and my desktop is always on and i dont like the idea of no protection.thanks..............mike

the problem was settings within your firewall, blocking the traffic between the two computers.

What kind of firewall have you got?

Don't really know that much about that particular bit of software - but it will almost certainly have a section where you can specify a trusted network.

Stick the details of the other machine in there and you should be ok, if not post back as I am sure that somebody here will know more about norton internet security 2003
