network printer problem

  wfulton_2121 11:44 09 May 2007

When i try to connect to a nework printer from a Win2k pro client i get the following message.

Could not connect to the printer. You either entered a printer name that was incorrect or the specified printer is no longer connected to the server. Click Help for more information.

The print server is running Windows server 2003 R2.

This problem only happens from time to time and on varried computers.

Any suggestion please?

There may be just too many print jobs in the Print Server?

Try re-setting the Print Server.

Have you tried browsing the network neighbourhood / searching active directory (if it's installed on the server) for the actual printer and checking that there isnt a problem with physically connecting to it at these times.

It could indicate a problem with the network, or as recap said a full printer queue, but then it should still connect.

Monitor what is going on at the printer end and also the network traffic itself to get a better idea of what is causing this issue.
