I have a desktop and laptop running xp. They are on a home wired network and I access the internet via broadband on the desktop.
I wish to access the internet from the laptop but am not sure how to set it up

do you have a wireless router?

you will need a wireless router, and a usb adapter if the laptop is not wirelessly enabled. The phone line will connect into the wireless modem/router and the desktop can be wired into the back of the router. The laptop can then work wirelessly with the router.

If the laptop is wired to the desktop, the desktop should be able to share the braodband to the laptop via the wired network.

I do not have a wireless router or usb adapter just the laptop and desktop connected by cross over cable.

Can I access the internet from the laptop with just this and if so what do I open on the laptop if I am already connected to my isp on the desktop.

on the desktop pc, in network connections, right click your broadband connection and click share. Then go on the laptop and you should get internet on it.
