Network folder sharing problems

  Simon Baum 21:07 08 Apr 2004

I've installed a wireless network connecting a desktop and a laptop via a hub, both using XP. That part seems to be working. However I can't seem to share files across any of the PCs. They both seem to be set up slightly differently. I've run the Windows XP wizard but that doesn't seem to help.
My laptop can see the desktop but can't access any folders I set to share. When trying to access the network on the desktop it hangs for about 20 seconds when trying to click on the network in Explorer and then gives the message MSHOME is not accessible.
Both PCs have "Client for Microsoft Networks" and "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" installed. Any ideas?

Try turning off the firewall.
Goto network connections, advanced properties and untick the box.

XP firewalls were never on. I've switched off both firewalls on each machine - no change. Any more suggestions?

Sorry, but this worked when I had this problem.
Did you produce a floppy to run on the other pc(s)? (from XP wizard).

can you ping back and forth?

do they both have unique names?

try a search through start>search>files and folders>computers ?
