Network drives

This maybe a silly question, but can you connect a Network drive (Lacie netspace2) direct to a PC (Vista)using a second ethernet connection and use in an similiar way to a USB drive.

I don't see why not, although you will almost certainly need to configure the IP addressing manually. By not connecting to a router, there is no DHCP server present to allocate IP addresses.

Any ideas what IP address would be needed?

i assume someting like ~ ~ 192.168.2.?

Use a different Subnet from the router's to avoid conflicts. Try...

Second Network adapter in PC:

IP address -
Subnet Mask -

Network Drive:

IP address -
Subnet Mask -

That should avoid conflicts with your router which could operate in the, or Subnet.

I should have added that the Default Gateway and DNS Server addresses are left blank, as this connection doesn't involve the internet.

OK, I'll give that a go this afternoon.

Will let you know how I get on.

All up a running.

Many thanks mgmcc
