Network Dos and Windows 2000

Hi I am trying to salvage data from an old desktop machine using dos over a crossover cable. Both machines have network cards so its not a problem. The old machine had been running windows which went belly up. I can acess the files however they are too large for floppies and a network would be the best approach. I have Dos network drivers and the ms-dos network software but it does not seem to work. On the win 2000 machine i can see a connection is present. I have shared the files using the "net share" command in dos but windows can not see the shares. Has anyone had any experience of this and how to do it. Thanks

If you have not sorted this yet.

If you are happy with opening up PCs and know where leads and jumpers go, take the hard drive out of the old machine and plug it into the new one. Much easier and faster. Could keep the old drive as a data drive.
