Network connection troubleshooting

  PhiltheFragger 13:03 24 Jul 2009

Dad has a xp athlon 64 3500, 2gb Ram connects to Orange B Band with a netgear router. Mobo is a gigabyte with an Nvidea chipset and network controller.

we are getting a message every few seconds that the lan is disconnected, then connected again, it is impossible to do anything online.
I have changed the router, changed the RJ45 Cable, downloaded new drivers via my laptop for the existing network card. Tried ti Install a new PCI LAN card, Realtek standard which XP should have on its driver database, wouldnt take it, the driver disk only had drivers for win98se, so I know it is a generic driver, hardware wizard could see it but wouldnt install it,
Then uninstalled and reinstalled the onboard lan, still the same problem, tried rolling back drivers no Joy.

I think we have a mobo problem

any other ideas out there

Try Tools.Internet Options.Connections.Lan settings.Tick automatically detect settings.Ok.Apply.Ok
Like I said probably not what you are looking for.
