In Internet Explorer , open " tools / Internet Options / Connections , make sure never dial a connection is ticked , then click on Lan settings and see that all are un-ticked , see if that helps .

If you connect the laptop to the router by ethernet cable, instead of wirelessly, can you open web pages? Presumably Internet Explorer isn't set to work "Offline"?

Ive followed all the things ashrich has mentioned and even disabled my firewall and antivirus, but im still having no joy. As for connecting the laptop directly by cable, i dont have one so thats out of the question.

just an idea but would i be able to get the correct settings off my desktop that is connected wirelessly and is working ok? if so what do i need to do?

thanks in advance

ive tried connecting to a neighbours unsecured wirless network, and the internet works fine now???

im baffled, any ideas??

  Ashrich 19:59 04 Dec 2006

I see you have no DHCP enabled on your wireless adapter and no Autoconfiguration enabled , also a very short IP lease of only one hour , I usually get one week from mine . Use the cable attached to your main PC to test , also try temporarily disabling your wireless encryption , if you can connect to your neighbours network that may be the problem , have you tried changing channels on the router , your neighbour my be trampling all over your signals .

i havent got a cable available and the desktop is also wireless. I dont think its the neighbours wireless interfeering as its always been there. I havent messed with any of the settings on the router at all.
any more ideas?
