ethernet, fast ethernet, gigabit ethernet

10Mbps, 100Mbps, 1000Mbps, and now they have ten gigabit ethernet, 10000Mbps

ethernet can either be coaxial cable, termianted with BNC (british naval connector), or UTP (unshielded twisted pair) CAT - 3,4,5,5e or 6 cable, terminated with RJ45 connectors

is that what you needed to know?

thats all i need, the manuafctuer will not change the type right? its sill an eithernet NIC card?

also whats a Patch Panel Do?

  Chezdez 10:25 26 Jan 2005

ethernet is governed by the IEEE (institute of electrical and electronic engineers) standard 802.3

all ethenet cards must follow this standard (although some manufactures have been known to deviate slightly from the standard to improve throughput)

a patch panel is used basically to allow quick alterations to the way a network is wired up to be made.
