a network cable is unplugged

finally i gave up on wireless and got a cable, plugged it into the modem, the netbook, now, when i try to connect it says "a network cable is unplugged"
i have tried alll the usual, unplugging, rebooting everything....i don't understand it.
any help please? i am on virgin broadband, the ps3 and the pc are plugged in and working fine....

If it is your LAN connection and you don't use it you can go into "Network and Sharing" - right click and either delete or disable.

Assuming you are running Xp (or similar), from Desktop select start and select Network Places.

As you do not intend to use the wireless connection, delete it.Go to View Network connections and your wired connection should now be showing if not create a new connection and your problem should be cured.
