Network bandwith utilization only at 10%

Hello all,

I have a desktop and a laptop as WLAN clients to my ADSL wireless router/modem.

When I transfer files from one client to the other I noticed (by monitoring network utilization in task mgr) that this process only uses 10% of the WLAN capacity (54Mbps)

I can't work out why. Any idea?

Many thanks

The nominal data transfer speed of 802.11g wireless networking is 54Mbps. In practice, it will be closer to 30Mbps. While transferring files, if both computers are connecting "wirelessly", they will be sharing the available 30Mbps bandwidth, effectively having about 15Mbps each. I can't offer a suggestion why the bandwidth utilisation should fall further to about 5Mbps.
