Netgear Storage Central SC101

I have the above storge unit connected by ethernet via BT Voyager ADSL router to three PCs (all running XP). It works fine, but at frequent intervals (say every 45 minutes), the port lights on the router will flash rapidly, (also on the 101)indicating that there is data communication happening between the SC101 and any PC that happens to be switched on. This is regardless of whether data transfer has been requested, or if there is any activity at all.

The reason I am asking about this is that during such times, which can last up to 5 minutes, normal file retrieval and storage is slowed considerably, making the processing of picture files, for example, very slow, and sometimes causing the process to hang. Once the activity has stopped, processing of files is quick and normal.

Do you know why the 101 is doing this? Can anything be done to stop the 101 initiating this unknown activity on the network?

hi mike...
its possible this is due to windows /system restore monitoring the drive.
check under system restore to see if this drive is set to be monitored.Dave.
