Do I have to 'enable' the 'Broadcast name' for wireless access?

  TOPCAT® 17:12 09 May 2007

If you mean 'Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)' in Wireless Settings then I hear disabling that option gives more security. TC.

Thanks TOPCAT.
Yes I meant 'Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)'.

So I assume that wireless access is possible with this option disabled.

Yes, I have it disabled and am now actually online wirelessly with two computers. TC.

Disabling the SSID does nothing for security , it can still be seen by anyone using the right software , but it can , and often does , cause connection problems for Windows . Rename the router with a name pertinent to you and give yourself good encryption ( WPA ) and you'll be fine . Also , enabling the SSID will help anyone else setting up a wireless network by letting them know what other networks are nearby , by using a program like Net Stumbler they can see which channels are being used and avoid the popular ones .

Thanks for putting me right on that, Ashrich. TC.
