netgear modem router and outlook express

can any body help?? i have just installed a Netgear modem router - model DG834PN to the family PC, although the router is working fine, we can connect wirelessly throughout the house and we can actually get on the internet on the family computer, we can no longer use outlook express on this computer, its like it cant find the new modem as when you go to send/recieve it says it can not connect, can anyone help as we know we have internet connection so dont understand why it isn't working. we have tried disabling the firewall, this had no effect. and have also gone through all troubleshooting we can find and this doesnt seem to be helping.

Go to Tools> Accounts > Select your email account > Properties > Connection > Tick "always connect to this account using" and select the connection to your router in the drop down box (Local Area Network)
Exit out of that, close OE and retry your mail
