Nero Software Version 5

  david4637 16:26 19 Feb 2004

I installed the original Version using the CD (OEM).
I have installed a number of updates via the Nero Download web page, and currently have Version (latest) installed.
If I have to re-install the software again from scratch, do I need to download an intermediate file such as Version 5.0.48 which I did not save at the time. I am a little confused by the web page –
click here , your help would be appreciated.

Thanks David

The latest version of nero is 6. Why would you have to install from scratch anyway? The page you point to states that "The update CANNOT be used for upgrading to a higher Nero version (e.g. not from Nero 5 to Nero 6), just to update to the latest available version within one sequence: e.g. from Nero to Nero" so version 5 is updateable with version 5 updates. If you download the wrong file it will tell you anyway.

How did you manage to get from version 5.0.xx to version 5.5.xx ?

The Nero6 version is a completely new one - Ahead is still offering updates for earlier versions, including 5 and 5.5.

Where david4637 may be getting confused is that the latest 5.5 version ( can only be installed if has already be installed on the system i.e. you can't jump from the version before 42 direct to 54.

So installing 42 and then 54 over it would bring Nero 5.5 right up to date.

Ahead gave the impression thqt 42 would be the very final version when Nero6 was released and then surprised us all with 54...:-)

There are, of course, even earlier versions of Nero for which upgrades can be downloaded - 3 and 4 - from here:

Looking at Ahead's upgrade page for previous versions, it now states that you can update any previously installed same version number software to the latest upgrade but not, of course, from Nero 5 to 5.5 or 5.5 to 6.

When I downloaded when it was first launched, it clearly stated that had to be already on my system.

Thank you for all your answers. Some have misread my query, which was carefully worded, and some have come close to answering it for me -

As you know sometimes you have to reinstall software, and that’s the reason for my query.

I don’t need Nero 6, so Version (latest) is all I want.

Question again please - How do I get from Version (CD installed) to Version ?

The Nero web site is a little unclear (see link above), seems to imply I need to download Version 5.0.48 to get to the latest version. One of the replies above suggested I need – its all a bit confusing to me?

Please advise. Thanks David

if your asking me i have 5.5

If you re-install from CD and Ahead have perviously let you upgrade from version 5 to 5.5 (I think ok if you have a retail copy), then you should be able to just download the latest upgrade ( without getting the intermediate one (I think this is the jist of your question). The latest version includes everything the previous have.
Hope this helps, Garry
