Hi, would like some advice on upgrading my PC that was built for me by a friend about 5 years ago. Since i have installed a new graphics card it appears to of slowed to a crawling pace. Any help would be gratefully recieved. This is the information i have about my PC: Motherboard: PC Chips M848A Rev:2.1 CPU: AMD Sempron 2800 i think! This is the number on it SDA2800DUT3D. PSU: Jeantech Model- HPC 300 202 Graphics Card: Asus AH3450 AGP x8 Hard Drive: Seagate 120GB (I also have a spare Western Digital WD600 60GB drive i dont use) Memory: DDR 512MB
My computer is 5-6years old and what it would cost to upgrade it would be better saved towards a new computer. Before Xmas I upgraded the memory through crucial from 512Mb to 2 Gb and can hardly notice any difference on the speed maybe slightly quicker. Now the £44 that it cost would have been better spent going towards a new computer. So ask yourself is it worth spending money on when computers are so cheap to buy nowadays.Maybe try this.Driver Max it is free. click here
If you can get a barton 3000+ @ 333Mhz 512k level 2 cache and an extra gig of ram. That would give a decent boost over the sempron. It would be hard trying to get both for £50 though.
For £115 click here you might get away with this. It's micro atx so should fit the case. If your power supply is 350w or above that should do, but you would need the extra 12v 4 pin plug. that should come with the psu. It has only one ata connector but that would take one hard drive and one optical drive. I think it has onboard graphics.
You might have to reinstall XP on it but it would have loads of upgradability for the future.
