Mystified by USBs

Just purchased an external CD Writer. It has USB2 connections whereas my Toshiba laptop is apparently only USB1. This apparently means that the re-writer burns CDs at a slower speed than it could. How do I go about upgrading my USB ports to USB2? or am I stuck with USB1 speed. Before today I never even realised there was a distinction!

As its a laptop i think you cannot upgrade the internals to USB2.0

So you stuck and waiting.

You can get a PCMCIA (Cardbus) USB thingy that gives you 1 or 2 USB 2.0 ports for about £35. Give me 5 minutes and I'll track down a supplier.

click here they have a 2 port USB 2.0 card (£35 exc. VAT plus P&P) and one that has 2 USB 2.0 ports and 2 firewire ports (£35 exc. VAT and P&P). It has to be a 32 bit cardbus port though (laptop about 3 years old or less).

OK 6 minutes.

1st card is £20 not £35.
