Mystery device not functioning

Laptop running Windows 7.

In my Device Manager, under the heading "Other devices", is listed an "Unknown device", with a yellow exclamation mark against it.

The properties (General tab) for this device reports its location as Port_#0002.Hub_#0001. It says:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

I've tried updating the driver, but Windows reports that it is unable to do so.

The Driver tab simply says the device is unknown. The Details tab says:

Property: Hardware Ids

Value: USB\VID_138A&PID_0005&REV_0 90
USB\VID_138A&PID_0005

This is gobbledegook to me, but the mention of USB made me check my USB ports. I have three of these, housing my printer, wireless mouse/keyboard transceiver and external HDD. All of them are working fine.

So, as far as I can tell, I have no non-functioning devices. So what could this mystery device be? Any ideas please?

Looks like fingerprint reader. See Here:

If you Google
USB\VID_138A&PID_0005&REV_0 90
USB\VID_138A&PID_0005

You will see more info. You could uninstall it if not wanted

Thanks so much to you both - you're dead right!

I'd forgotten that my laptop has a fingerprint reader (which I never use). I wonder why Windows couldn't find a driver update for it.

Anyway, as you suggest JB I think I'll uninstall it.

Many thanks again.
