My Yahoo and Mail

Allan RISC OS user 14:01 12 Jun 2009

Today I am unable to see my mail or Spam when I click on Mail in MyYahoo!, each time I click on Spam or any other mail folder I get a blank window with in the top left hand corner of the window where the contents of the Spam folder should be, and even if I click on the 'click here' button all I get is their webpage, I have not been able to find a way around this.

I am unable to find a help subject or a contact for Yahoo so that I can ask what has happened.

I can still get my mail via Thunderbird, but I am not able to look at the spam folder in the Yahoo mail site to check if any genuine mail has been diverted.

Can anyone out there help me please.

a couple of others with same problem click here click here
they seem to think it is a virus/malware problem.

What antivirus and antimalware programs have you so far run to see if you are infected?

Thank you both for you help, I ran Spybot but it did not find a problem, so I tried Ad-Aware and this showed quite a few cookie and I removed these and all is now okay.
I also have Ashampoo SpywareGuard 2 running but something still got through!!!!!!!!!!!

You do not yet mention any ANTIVIRUS program ?? what is your Resident antivirus program?Do you have one?

Hi p;3
I have a similar problem again today, this time I can see the mail folders and the list of emails but then the screen goes blanc and nothing else happens. If I then use the back arrow I see the list gain for a few seconds.
I am running Ad-aware now whilst I am writing this.
You asked what anti-virus I have, it is AVG 8.5.364 free.
I will run a virus check later, but yesterday I thought I had over come the problem.
I can get my emails via Thunderbird, but of course I am unable to check the Spam folder just in case some thing has been diverted which should not have been.

It is never a good idea to run scan programs while you are on line unless of course they are on- line scanner progams !!When did you last update your AVG8.5 and run a full computer scan with it ? It cannot harm also if you could run a full computer scan with Superantispyware off line !!click here

let us know how you get on?

Hi again

Ad-aware found one cookie which it removed and again I can use Yahoo Mail, I also scanned using the application you recommended, nothing found.

I will keep it available, there is nothing in the AVG Virus Vault so it would appear that the problem is the cookie and not a virus.

Have you any idea from where the cookie would be coming?

try running a scan with Malwarebytes

an idea after reading this

'This is a very annoying problem. It appears that one of Yahoo's advertisers has installed a script that redirects you from your mail inbox and off to an advert for this casino site, preventing you from accessing your emails'

try installing the Hosts file ; it gets rid of(actually blocks) most ads on most sites click here

follow the instructions applicable for your Windows version for the place to save it ; works wonders !!
