Over the last few days the screen 'picture' on my Dell Dimension 4100 with 98 SE starts jumping rapidly up and down after a while. This occurs when connected to the web and in Word.It is intermittent, hence my ability to write this.

I have already tried de gaussing.

Any advice please on stabilising my 'drunken' screen?

It's more than likely a fault in the monitor. Check it out by using your montior on another system, and another monitor on your system. then you'll know for sure where the problem is.

This will also automatically check out the possibility of a cable problem.

If it's the monitor (and I suspect it is) - then it's a new minitor or a warranty claim.

Thanks DieSse I'll try it - watch this space.

I've also heard this can be attributed to wheel scroll mouse problems, can you change over your mouse and see if that cures it? TR

.

Good point - yes this is worth a try.

After trying numerous things without success I decided to look at my monitor problem solving instructions.
I've increased the refresh rate and it seems to have worked.
