Depends where you live - if your exchange/hookup has become busier speeds will drop.

Seems you are not on your own. If you check out some of the broadband sites you'll see others are reporting very slow speeds.

All I would suggest is try and go for an ISP with a 1 month contract e.g. Zen, then if you're not happy, migrate again.

the pipex website seems to be having major problems too, with an "ESSENTIAL SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE/Temporary Suspension some of My Pipex Services"- which has been going on for MONTHS!

features unavailable (pretty much everything that saves them money....):
* Change Service
* Newsgroup Allowance
* Speedboost (for customers on our 250 service)
* Half Price Dial Ordering Form (Remote Access)
* Friends Referred

im also thinking of changing if they dont correct everything in the next couple of weeks- has anyone ever tried their phone service? :(

I had exactly the same issues with a progressive deterioration over 6 months. When I moved house last October, to minimise hassle I tried to swith my existing broadband account. Customer service was absolutely appalling and I ended up chucking them and getting Plusnet at my new house. So far, so good (they have just been bought by BT, so let's hope they don't get mired in BT's culture). Pipex used to be a specialist with high standards, but now it is a mass market provider and, just like Carphone Warehouse, appears to be massively overstretched. Dump and run!

this makes me want to change provider immediately (from last year, when the pipex website still wasnt up and running fully....): click here

if anyone wants to tell their own pipex problems, click here
and rant away! :O

yeah i think pipex used to have a good record with many computer magazines giving away all the rewards, with best internet provider of the year, et al... (cant remember the year, ahem). im not sure whether theyve gone downhill only over the past year or so, but its not really fair for customers not able to switch or customise their services/complain etc without having to resort to a possibly high rate pipex phone line that doesnt really get you anywhere.

I had similar problem. Phoned pipex customer services in December and requested MAC. they said it would be sent by e-mail within three days. When 2 days 23 hours had passed and it had not arrived, I telephoned again and was given the MAC code over the phone. Used it and hey no problem in migrating to my new excellent ISP.
