When i turned my pc on this morning after about a minute it shut itself down and let me power up again under the last known good configuration. What can cause this?
I have just got back from work and powered up my pc and at first it would not let me.It kept saying that a recent hardware or software change maybe causing the problem but i have not changed anything recently??
I just sent an error report to microsoft and it said when it came back that "A device driver installed on your system caused the problem" How do i sort this out?
have you updated any drivers lately? or installed any new software?boot into safe mode by tapping F8 at startup.uninstall the most recent software added one by one untill it works.have a look in control panel/administrative tools/event viewer and see if it lists any errors that may help track down the culpret.
Thanks for replying. Can usb modems cause the system to crash as i just got a message USBPORT.SYS? I have changed the usb modem over to the other usb port to see what happens.
This is easy just remove the modem and try your computer
Thanks woodchip. I did try that but because it does not crash every time it is difficult to say. I just seem to remember reading about problems with usb modems.
If you are XP it may be something to do with the service pack 2 that supports USB2 have you loaded it
Thanks for replying. How would i find out if i have it loaded?
It should tell you in Add/Remove in Control Panel
I have a lot with sp2 in them but i will look at the ms site. Many thanks
