Is my motherboard SATA compatible?

  Qdiddy 11:47 10 Apr 2004

Can anyone tell me how to find out if my motherboard will take a SATA hardrive without using some kind of adapter?

All I can tell you is that the motherboard is made by American Megatrends and holds an AMD 1.2Ghz Athlon processor.

Use the utility here click here to find out what mobo you have and post back.

The answer will almost certainly be no - due to the age of your machine

Go to click here install and run the Personal or Enterprise edition.

That'll tell you what your motherboard is.

Then either post back here, or go to click here and check the spec of your board.

I have got a copy of the Belarc summary in front of me. Under "Main Circuit Board", it lists the following:

Bus Clock: 66 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc 062710 07/15/97

Should I be looking anywhere else on the summary

You are looking in the right place but it should say

Board: "The name of your motherboard"
Bus Clock:

If it doesn't then download Aida as shown by Ironman and see if that reports what the board is

OK. I've run Aida32 and this reports my motherboard name PCChips M810LR?????

Shouldnt the bus clock be 100 for a 1200 athlon?

and your bios is 7 years old so i dont think SATA will be available on the board i think you also need SATA connectors on the board.

I've had a look but can't find anything to suggest it's compatible.

Would you suggest upgrading the board/processor or buying new bare bones package?

(interesing adverts btw)

Can I change the bus clock?

  bremner 12:34 10 Apr 2004

Really sorry about the ads I didn't even see them I will ask the FE to remove the posting immediately.

A new board would be the best bet for SATA the CPU you have would still be ok,as for the bus clcok it should be set Automatically but some times you can alter it manually in the bios. Not sure where on your board tho and if it says 1200 at post then it must be set ok.
