My laptop shuts down when USB plugged in...

My laptop has recently had XP Home Edition again. I've just about got it where I want it, other than the fact that when I plug in a USB device in almost any kind, my laptop shuts down. Sometimes the screen goes white for a while, then turns off. I also get the exactly the same thing when my power adapter is unplugged.

Sounds like a possible Power Adapter problem - does the power adapter have a good solid fit, not wobbly or loose?

Well, I do have a cable from a different laptop from the same company, and it belonged to my mother. I don't think this is the problem as the cable still stay's in when I plug the USB in.

In Devices un-install ALL USB Ports, with no USB items connected, then restart laptop. This should re-set the ports.
