My internet disconnects

i have got a windows xp computer using ntl broadband connected with a USB lead. if i go on the internet it is fine, if i go on something else using the internet connection it is fine. but then after a while of using the internet i get disconnected and the problem does not lie with the modem as i normally have it connected to another computer without problems.
my firewall is NOT blocking the internert connections does any one have any help??

Do you mean you hook the modem up to another PC and it works fine, or you have the modem connected to two machines at once? Most of the free modems only have one connection method...
