My Help function has done a runner.

I have lost my "Help" function and ave been told that I should use my recovery disc to find it. When I placed the disc in the computer a message came up saying that I would have to delete the existing XP as it was newer than the disc, then close the computer and open it again with the disc as a boot up.
I'm terified in case I mess the whole thing up so, is this a safe practice?

" is this a safe practice?"

Go to Start > Run and type in:

(note the space after "SFC", that's important) and press OK. It will scan for missing or corrupt files and replace them.

Vog. I tried that and although it took a long time to process it had no effect.
Maj. I tried that and that had no effect.
I wonder if it needs a re-load of the XP disc.

You could try the fix from click here
I know it says to use if you have run Easy Cleaner, I never have used that but the fix worked for me when I had the same problem.
