I have just finished creating my first site which is a forum. I used phpBB.

Just wondering if anyone likes the finished design?

And ideas on how i could improve it?

with the loading time. Either it's the site or the server, or both, but something's wrong.

My other comment is that you aren't likely to get much traffic unless you host the forum on a proper domain name.

how wud i be able to host it on a proper domain name?

not sure. it does have to go through his router which hes had probs with. cud that be it?

1. Buy a domain name.

2. Host it on your friend's server.

3. Wait for the DNS servers around the world to propagate the domain name on their databases - it usually happens within 24 hours.

I'm assuming that your friend's server is a 'proper' web server, running 24 hours a day. 7 days a week on a fixed IP address?

Yes, problems with a router will certainly reflect on the site's loading time. If you really want your forum to stand an earthly chance you'll need to host it properly, otherwise nobody will bother with it.

Hold on a minute.

It's not a website, it's just a message board.
You choose the kind of board you want, apply a template, decide your forum categories and hope that people are interested enough to join.

A website is something that has content to hold the visitors interest.
Pictures to stimulate the mind.
Information that makes people want to delve deeper.
Pages that tell us about the writers interests or updates us with facts about that interest.

A message board should be just a small, but important, part of a website and not the be all and end all.

Alrite calm down.

I no its not a full site. That is going to come in time.

I have loads of other proper sites, but ive found message boards are an effective way of gettin easy traffic to start with!
