My daughter dropped her WD My Book on the floor...

...and it has stopped working. Before leaving it in for repair could it just be some physical thing, internal cable hopped out or something, can't bear the thought of her 15,000 photos disappearing into cyberspace. How do you get into it to check it out.

Thanks for the link, I'll try it out. There is life, the leds blink but no disc shows up.

She has a more recent model than that shown on the link. The one I have is different again. This one has no screws in the casing, but there is what looks like a sort of "click lock", but I'm not sure I want to insert anything in it just in case...

The drives failed and you've lost 15000 photos, if you break the case getting into it an new drive caddy is going to cost you £15 - £20 but at least you get your data back, what else have you got to lose?

Just shows the dangers of only relying on your hard drive for storing all your photos. It doesn't cost much to archive them onto CD or DVD.
