Go to start/run and type sfc \scannow.This will scan and replace any corrupt files.

were you given the option to ignore message and or cancel. I would have done this and then gone to start - run - and type sfc /scannow return. Then if asked for the cd put it in and let it sort your files out. If it will not let you ignore it try restarting in safe mode.

Hi, My computer cannot reach the satge where i can go to sart-run. It says this after a while..

Windows Could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup cd-rom.
Select 'R' at the first screen to start repair.

So ??????????

Make sure, if you undertake an XP Repair, that you keep selecting Install until the choice of Repair becomes available (NPT Recovery Console).

However, if possible, the

sfc /scannow

option is definitely preferable.

(Note the space after sfc )

Reboot your computer and tap the F8 key continually. You will see different boot options, try either last known good configuration or see if you can boot in safe mode to do the sfc /scannow.
