multimedia audio controller driver - access denied

  harristweed 07:54 29 Apr 2004

I have Windows XP Pro. I need to do a repair and went through the repair process using the xp disc. All is now working except the sound. When i try and install the sound driver, the wizard goes through the search process appears to load the files then I get a message.

An error occurred during the installation of this device. Access denied.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you remove it from the device manager and then reboot and follow the install instructions - it may be trying to replace a file in use.

Thanks for that. I tried progressively stopping various items until I had turned everything off I possibly could. Still get the same error message, but on boot up i got a message that my hardware had changed since I installed Windows and I've got 3 days to re-register with Microsoft!
