I HAVE A DELL DIMENSION C521.AMD ATHLON 64 DUAL CORE PROCESSOR AND WINDOWS VISTA.I HAVE JUST REPLACED THE ORIGINAL DELL 512MB PC 4200 MEMORY STICK WITH TWO KINGSTON 512 MB MATCHING MEMORY STICKS PC 5300. WHEN I OPEN CERTAIN APPLICATIONS LIKE RESOURCE MANAGER IM GREETED BY A BROKEN UP MULTI PIXELLED SCREEN WHICH RETURNS BACK TO MY WINDOWS BACKGROUND AFTER A SHORT WHILE OR IF I CLOSE THE APPLICATION DOWN. ANY ONE HELP THANKS

sounds as if the new memory is either duff or incompatible.

What's it like if you put the old DIMM back instead?

memory is brand new..this is second type i have tried ist was crucial..which gave same coloured screen..works fine with old dimm in...but running vista on 512 mb ram is a nightmare...tooo slow

Get MEMtest and run it, if you get alot of errors it's your memory. Also check your bios settings and make sure voltage and timing are by either SPD or Auto

One other thought, try with one stick at a time and in each dimm slot it'll hopefully narrow down where the problem is.
