MSI VR601 unable to detect wireless router?

I have an MSI VR601 laptop with vista, that is unable to detect my wireless router at all. I have not installed anything recently (aside from the new version of microsofts messenger service-which comes with the unknown seaport.exe function), but this morning the system restarted for no reason, and after that, my wireless router cannot be detected at all for internet access. The router is definately working-as it is fine with the desktop xp machine for net use. The problematic laptop has no viruses whatsoever according to avira, and there does not seem to be any unknown software hiding in the background that may cause issues that I can find. The wireless function of the MSI VR601 laptop is run by Atheros- any ideas on how I can resolve this, if reinstalling the drivers makes no difference, and no router ever turns up on a rescan of wireless devices? thanks

Have you tried running "System Restore"?
