Iam waiting for delivery of the above board and been reading the manual on the manufacturers website. There is this 12V Power connector (square 4 pins) for the CPU, and also the normal ATX 20 pins connector. Question is do i have to connect the 4 pin connector as well?

The CPU Iam getting is the AMD XP2800+ 333FSB. os windows xp pro

Yes to get the graphics to work, you will need to connect the four pin connector to the centre on the board

What reason might you have for not connecting it?

If you read your manual, it tells you it supplies power to the processor. If you don't connect it, the processor may not receive enough power to function correctly or reliably.

This is one of the newer motherboards and if it has this connectot on it then yes you do have to connect it in order for it to work, so if you were considering using you're old supply and it doesn't have this connector then I'm afraid you've had it and will have to buy a new one.
