Mshome not accessible

  Bandy 21:50 01 Oct 2006

I have desktop computer networked to two laptops. The desktop and one laptop can see each other and work well, but the second laptop cannot be seen, although its listed in the Belkin modem/router.

The error messages says Mshome is not accessible and the list of servers for this workgroup is not available.

Can anyone please help point me in the direction of a solution, I am obviously missing it.

Are your client firewalls configured as required?

The firewalls appear to be fine, although as a test I did uninstal the firewalls completely. That did not make any difference and the second laptop i still unseen.

Got rather fed up when a restore did not work so went for a complete re-install of Windows on the offending laptop.

That has cured the problem but I've no idea of what was the cause of the original fault

Local security policy and/or share permissions, probably. Fixable without a reinstall, but never mind! Glad it's sorted.
