on the start up tab on msconfig what miminum operations do i need in the start up tab

You can disable all if you want to. It will still boot up alright.

Not quite that simple unless your going for full bare bones? click here and decide what you can do without, you can always start them latter..

Its the services tab that will allow you to choose what apps start..

The only one I had to go back and tick was direct cd. So that I could format and eject cdrw's.

You should be able to stop any of those listed starting in the back ground as windows loads.

You can also tick the hide all microsoft services under the, yes, services tab.
