MS Office Pro OEM

Hi

I am in the throws of buying a new computer and possibly MS Office 2007 Pro OEM version.

I have been told by the sales desk for the computer company that no discs are supplied for the Office software but if I contact Microsoft direct and request discs for the software package they will supply them together with the serial No./code for a nominal sum of about £9.

Is this right.

So if I do go down that route of buying the OEM version with my computer purchase and then get the discs from Microsoft it will still be cheaper than buying the full packaged version

Surely it's not as easy as that and something must be lacking. Is it worth it?

Can anyone help with advice please.

I would be extremely suspicious of that suggestion. Normally Microsoft provide no support at all for their OEM products and refer you back to the provider of your system.

The OEM version of Office normally comes on CDs - so the company concerned should be giving these to you - as well as the installation key.

With large suppliers you may get a free limited time version - 90 days I think.

Be very wary and get any promises on this in writing - it doesn't sound quite right to me.

Thanks for your reply guys.

The company in question is PC Specialist.co.uk
The guy on the sales desk I talked to told me that. I'll check again with them. Hopefully get someone else to talk to,to get a difinitive answer.

Do you know anything about this company?

Having gone through that route, I was speaking with a software supplier and I understand that I can buy an upgrade office 2007 pro for very little more money and have the disc and license No. to upgrade my existing office 2007.

if that is true then it seems the logical way to go, don't you think.

OEM, we always supply the disks....steer clear of this deal.
