MS Antispyware files scanned?

What is a file ?
When I scan with MS Spyware Beta It says 45 mem processes, 21860 files, 9193 registry keys.
When I scan with PC Tools Spyware Doctor It says 120,000 files.
When I scan with AdAware Personal SE it says 182,000 files.
Which is right?
Is each program scanning all files or just a portion?

I think they all scan different files that the programs think are most at risk from infection or change, between them they should be able to scan most files they need to,and if nothing shows up then better still :)

Each antispyware program is configured to scan certain types of file that may be considered (by the authors)to harbour malware.

This is why each prog scans a different amount of files and why it is prudent to have more than one antispyware prog to catch what others may miss.

Most Antispyware programs, certainly those you have listed, can be configured to scan more or less files and folders as you consider necessary.
