  Adz1310 14:39 05 Jan 2007

I have recorded off my TV card and now want to burn to DVD but aint that easy. Tried to use nero but it says the file is too big even though it says the file is only 3gb. Can anyone help? Or suggest a free easy to use burner?

Use nero vision express to convert and burn to dvd format to a folder on the hard drive, then use dvdshrink to burn to a dvd.

In Nero's SmartStart you have the choice of burning to CD or DVD - a CD will only hold up to just under 700MB plus overheads.

If you are only using your DVD-ROM or rewriter to watch MPEG2 TV recordings why not convert them to H264 (High Definition) standard?

I use this freeware:

It quickly converts MPEG2 to H264 and QuickTime or WMP will play such files (install the standard pack of K-Lite codecs from click here if necessary).

The H264 conversion delivers the same quality of sound and vision whilst reducing, for instance, a 1.10GB MPEG2 file lasting around 35 minutes to just 188-190MB.

That means a CD-R will be able to hold more than two hours of sound and vision.

Apple info on H264 (also supported by Microsoft):
