mp3 player write protected

I have my nephews mp3 player and we cannot get anything to copy to it every time you try it says disc is write protected. how do we remove this from the player as the same message appears if you try to re format the player so it is the player that is protected. it has music on it but as he can't add any more he is getting annoyed.can anyone help please

Does it have a hold button on it?

Some pen drive style players have a small locking button to prevent accidental overwrite. Does this model have one and is it in the correct position?

I have tried the hold button in both positions it makes no difference

Can't seem to find much about that make of mp3 player.Was it British bought?

Thanks to all it must have been the hold button I kept moving it to each setting and it reformatted it seems OK now maybe a dirty switch
