mp3 icons changed mysteriously.

Windows XP Pro SP3; ASRock 775VM800; Pentium 4; 3GHz; 2Gb RAM

All of the icons for my mp3 files, on all drives, have mysteriously changed from the appropriate media player icon to a generic system icon. It is the one that is displayed when there is no icon, a small window showing files, on a white background.
I have tried re-associating the files with Media Monkey, VLC and WMP but the icons steadfastly refuse to change back. The files play just as they should, but I would like to find out how to get the appropriate icons back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Download & install Tweak UI click here.

Run it, select Repair (bottom of the left pane) & with 'Rebuid Icons' selected, click on the 'Repair Now' button.

You may need to reboot to see the changes, so if no immediate visible effect, reboot & check your mp3 files icons. G

Thank you very much for your advice. I already had TweakUI, but had forgotten about it. It did the trick exactly as you thought it might.
Thanks again.
