Moving a data hdd from one pc to another.

On another post I was asking about updating a Dell 4100 desktop..new MBO etc..decided this was not such a good idea (thanks for the suggestions guys). I have now decided to let my wife have my Dell 5000 and buy a new machine for myself..probably a dell 531s with some upgrades. My question is, 'I have an extra hdd (500gb) on the dell 5000 which I would want to switch to the new machine, I would like to preserve the data...no system stuff on it..is it just a matter of removing from one machine and fitting it to the other..?'

Thanks Al

In theory, yes, as long as there is a place to install it, a spare power connector for it and a spare data connector (SATA or ATA) for it.
If its a SATA disk then its just plug it in and go. If its an ATA disk then its slightly different.

Thanks Ditch..its a SATA disk. When I originally put it in the existing machine I had to do quite a bit of fiddling to get it recognised. I was hoping it would not be the same on the new machine and I could just fit it and go similar to an external hdd.
